Making incisionless surgery a reality
Harmonic Medical is empowering clinicians to deliver
revolutionary treatment for uterine fibroids.
Not approved for clinical use
Approximately 80% of all women will develop uterine fibroids by age fifty. At least 20% of these women have symptoms severe enough to require treatment, many more avoid therapy because they find the potential complications of any of the available options unacceptable.
Today there are many treatments for fibroids ranging from medication to major surgery, all have potential side effects or disadvantages. For women who wish to avoid long term medication or open surgery, retain their uterus, and yet have a definitive therapy for their fibroids, focused ultrasound can be an attractive treatment option.
Harmonic Medical is developing a focused ultrasound system that will allow outpatient incision-less treatment for the symptoms of uterine fibroids.
Who We Are
Harmonic Medical’s team is developing the next generation of completely non-invasive surgery through the use of focused ultrasound.
We have solved the major problems that have limited widespread adoption of this revolutionary technology. Providing a solution that is: fast; suitable for a broad range of patients; and designed for the treating physician, without cumbersome and costly infrastructure like MRIs.
We are directing this revolutionary technology towards improving Women’s Health.
Innovative technology for non-invasive treatment
New Technology is changing lives
Disease treatment and management that previously required invasive complex surgical procedures with long recovery times can now be done:
Non-invasively – Without ever making an incision and with minimal-to-no recovery time
In an outpatient setting – With no hospital stay involved in the recovery
Thanks to FOCUSED ULTRASOUND
A technology that delivers ultrasound energy to a specific point inside the body in a method that is analogous to a magnifying glass focusing light on a point. This allows precise ablation of target tissues deep in the body.
Harmonic Medical’s Focused Ultrasound
Only Fully Steerable Array
Harmonic Medical has the world’s only fully steerable transducer phased array. This allows the focal spot to be moved anywhere in real time.
Compared to other focused ultrasound technologies, the Harmonic platform has unparalleled:
- Speed – High patient throughput
- Size and depth of treatment area – Large treatable population
Direct Measure of Tissue Coagulation
The Harmonic Medical platform monitors the effect of treatment on targeted tissue in real time using Local Harmonic Motion (LHM). By combining standard diagnostic ultrasound with focused ultrasound, we detect changes in tissue stiffness during treatment. This provides a safe and low-cost method of monitoring treatment.
BEYOND UTERINE FIBROIDS
Harmonic Medical’s technology is being investigated for treating the following broad range of cancer treatments:
- Bone Metastases
- Metastic Liver Cancer
- Hepatocellular Carcinoma
- Thyroid Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Kidney Cancer
